Manner Minders

Manner Minders only costs $3.95. You can download it instantly and print the cards off on cardstock, cut them apart, and they are ready to use. We plan to start using these today!

Manner Minders is a simple system to encourage good table manners without being negative about the bad ones. Simply put the 18 Manner-Minder cards in a bowl in the middle of the table and after everyone's seated and you're ready to eat dinner, have an adult read the card of the night and tell the children that is the focus for the meal—that one manner for the night. By using Manner-Minders, you allow the cards to do the talking—no more saying, "Elbows off the table, Tommy! How many times do I have to tell you?" Instead, you just enjoy your children and praise them when you catch them practicing their good manners! Your encouragement will help them learn this important life skill.

Also included is an invaluable table setting placemat. After your child adds their personal touch to the colorable placemat, watch them master the placement of their silverware, plate, napkin and such.

These two great tools will make gathering around the dinner table a pleasure at your house! For those of you that want some help in teaching your children lessons that last a life time go to:

Gardens Unit Study

Here is another great unit study by Amanda Bennett. The Gardens Unit Study is being offered by HomeschooleStore.com for only $10.95. You just order it, download it to your computer and print. I like the freedom to print all of a unit study or only certain sections.

Details about the the Gardens Unit Study . . .

At last, a unit study that is ready to use right now - no extra books or preparation required! Encompassing the history of gardens, plant science, planning and planting a garden, and the arts and gardens, the study is perfect for any time of year -- autumn gardens, winter daydreams, spring planting, and summer harvesting. Come on along and dig right in! We've grown seeds on the windowsill through the wintertime, watched a sweet potato sprout and spread across the top of the refrigerator, and learned so much!

Gardening offers a priceless opportunity to work together on a fun family project, and share thoughts and ideas as you build your own special place of beauty and memories. From pole bean tepees to sunflower houses, what memories they will build! Use this study to share lessons about nature and plants with your children. What makes the seeds grow? Why do we grow things? What does a fresh ear of corn taste like? Imagine together, what it might have been like in the first garden -- the Garden of Eden!

The Internet has added a whole new dimension to the world of unit studies and the Garden Unit Study takes full advantage of this tremendous resource. This new study is has "clickable" links at key points throughout the daily lessons. From viewing Monet's gardens and his paintings, to dissecting a seed with an electron microscope, this new format greatly enhances the learning adventure.

Some of the topics included in the study:
Planning and planting your own garden
Plant science
History of gardens
Famous gardens
Famous scientists and gardeners

Each day's lesson plan has been written in two levels. There is a daily lesson plan for Lower Level (elementary grades), and one for Upper Level (Jr/Sr High grades) 106 pages, printable for your family's use.

Learning About the Resurrection

Easter Unit Study by Amanda Bennett - This is an eBook to purchase and download immediately. Gives you the freedom to print all the pages or a selection -- and no shipping!!

A book we enjoyed as a read-aloud a couple of years ago this time of year is Vinegar Boy by Alberta Hawse. "Abandoned by his parents and shunned by society, Vinegar Boy is certain he'll be adopted once Jesus removes the ugly birthmark that scars his cheek. But when he carries the drugged vinegar to a crucifixion, Vinegar Boy finds himself face to face with the only one who can heal his face. Is there still time for a miracle?" I highly recommend this book!

Teaching Textbooks Math - Sample Lessons

You can now get the first ten lessons from each of the Teaching Textbooks math books so you can try before you buy. I have a son who has completed their Algebra 1 and is currently working his way through Algebra 2. We think it is a thorough high school math curriculum and is very teacher friendly -- it was written specifically for homeschoolers and uses a self-teaching method. I didn't know about the free samples before I purchased ours.

Case for Christ & Case for Faith

Here is a great price on two books by Lee Strobel (actually it is two books in one book) -- The Case for Christ / The Case for Faith, 2 Volumes in 1 -- for only $9.99. (Was $19.99 -- 50% off!) I plan to have my kids read this in 11th or 12th grade as a book study.

"Strobel, a lifelong atheist and religious skeptic, thought it wise to explore the historical basis for his wife's new-found faith in Christianity. With his keen analytical mind and award-winning background in journalism, he seemed to be the right man for the job of uncovering the evidence against the historical Jesus of Nazareth, who Christians call 'the Christ, the anointed Son of God'. But like many who had gone before him, what he found was just the opposite.

After the conclusions and life-changing ramifications of The Case for Christ, Strobel then continued his research into the Christian faith, examining theodicy, evolution myths he had once held sacred, the concept of Hell, and Old Testament genocidal accounts, among other issues many non-Christians struggle with. Always asking the tough questions and challenging world-class experts, Strobel builds the case for Christianity as the one true faith just as he did for Christ being the one true way. Easy-to-read, yet filled with irrefutable logic, Strobel's books have become popular apologetical works, as he continues his mission to break down the walls between biblical truth and blind faith in non-Christian beliefs."

This is the lowest prices I have seen on Bible covers. Everyone in our family likes Bible covers to help protect their Bible and it gives a place to tuck extra papers and a pen. These start at only $1.99!
